Steps for Windows

  1. Windows 10/11 may work but is not officially supported (official: Windows Server 2022 or later); Docker is another option.
  2. Download meilisearch-windows-amd64.exe from the latest GitHub release.
  3. Run it from Command Prompt or PowerShell, then open http://localhost:7700.

Steps for Mac

  1. Check that your Mac runs macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
  2. With Homebrew installed, run “brew install meilisearch”, then start it with “meilisearch”.
  3. Open http://localhost:7700 for the built-in search preview.

Steps for Linux

  1. Check your system has glibc 2.35 or newer.
  2. Install with the official script or APT repository from the install guide, then start “meilisearch”.
  3. Open http://localhost:7700.

Steps for Web browser

  1. Register at cloud.meilisearch.com for the 14-day free trial (no card).
  2. Create a project and pick the region closest to you; it cannot be changed later.
  3. Create an index, upload a JSON file of your data and try the search preview.

Steps for Your own server

  1. You need a server you manage or a Docker host.
  2. Run the official Docker image with a pinned version and a data volume.
  3. Set a master key and follow the production security guide before exposing it to the internet.
